Windsor Spitfires News Release
2014 CHL Import Draft pick Markus Soberg has agreed to join the Spitfires for the 2014-15 season.
The news was confirmed today by General Manager Warren Rychel, who travelled to Columbus with Spitfires President and Head Coach Bob Boughner to meet Soberg and his agent, in hopes of a deal.
"We're happy to have Markus join the Spitfires," Rychel said. "He's another big kid that's good with the puck and will add to what's becoming a pretty deep group of forwards."
Rychel used the #29 pick on Soberg, a native of Oslo, Norway, who played with Vastras Frolunda of the Swedish J20 Super Elit League last seaason.
Soberg (6'0, 187) is a 1995-born right winger that was taken by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 6th Round, with the 165th overall pick, in the 2013 NHL Draft in Newark.
In 45 games with Frolunda last season, he scored 21 goals and added 17 assists, along with 40 penalty minutes. In four games at the World Junior Club Cup, Soberg scored three times and added an assist for four points. He also represented Team Norway at the U-20 World Junior Hockey Championship, registering an assist in five games.
