Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Beloit Snappers rallied from an early 4-0 deficit and held on for a 6-5 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Rene Leveret homered and drove in three runs to help the Snappers send Wisconsin to their ninth straight loss.

Maximo Mendez put the Rattlers (3-14 second half, 34-49 overall) on the board first with an RBI single in the third inning. A wild pitch later in the frame allowed a run to score from third and gave the Rattlers a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin extended the lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the fourth inning. An RBI single by Blake Ochoa plated the first run of the inning. Gavin Dickey's sacrifice fly later in the inning drove in the fourth Rattler run.

Rattler starting pitcher Keith Renaud worked five shutout innings by scattering five hits and three walks, but he was nearing 100 pitches and had to come out of the game after the fifth.

Beloit (11-6, 47-38) got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs off reliever Joe Kantakevich in the top of the sixth inning. Leveret started the inning with a home run. A two-out RBI double by Mark Dolenc drove in the second run.

The first two Snapper batters reached to start the seventh inning and chase Kantakevich. Natividad Dilone entered the game and gave up a single to load the bases. Leveret tied the game with a two-run single off Dilone.

Justin Souza was the fourth Rattler pitcher of the night and got the first two batters he faced. But, a two-out, two-run single by Allan de San Miguel gave the Snappers a 6-4 lead.

Wisconsin rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back doubles by Edilio Colina and Denny Almonte got the Rattlers to within 6-5. But that was as close as the Rattlers would get.

Wisconsin loaded the bases with one out in the eighth and did not score. They had the tying run at second and the winning run at first with two outs in the ninth, but Charles Nolte, who got the final out of the eighth, got the last out for the save.

Game two of the three game series is Sunday afternoon. Michael Pineda (5-4, 1.83) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit sends Santos Arias (4-3, 2.70) to the mound. Game time is 1:05pm.
