Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI -The Beloit Snappers, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics are excited to announce their 2016 opening day roster that will include 14 players that were drafted last year.

A name to look out for on this year's roster is centerfielder, Skye Bolt. The former North Carolina Tar Heel is expected to be a very promising prospect. The 22 year old from Atlanta, Georgia, was acquired in the 4th round of the 2015 Draft. Last season he played for the short season Vermont Lake Monsters and had a batting average of .238 while hitting four homers, 10 doubles, and 19 RBI.

Another player to keep your eye on this season is Trent Gilbert, the Snappers' second baseman. The 2015 Midwest League All-Star will be returning to Beloit to start the season.

There will be a total of seven players returning to Beloit this season that were on the roster in 2015, so there will be quite a few familiar faces. Those players include: second baseman, Trent Gilbert, infielder, Edwin Diaz, catcher, Jose Chavez, outfielder, Justin Higley, and pitchers, Kevin Johnson and Corey Miller.

After finishing his first minor league managerial campaign, Fran Riordan is back for his second season in Beloit. Riordan spent 14 years managing in independent leagues and is a member of the Frontier League Hall of Fame.

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and are a fourth year Class-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The 2016 season marks the 35th season for Beloit Professional Baseball. Opening Night at Pohlman Field is set for April 7, 2016 at 6:30 pm when the Snappers face the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
