Snakes Score in Six Straight Innings

Falling behind early the Calgary Vipers scored ten unanswered runs to defeat the St. George RoadRunners 11-4 before 1431 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Vipers trailed 2-0 after two and a half innings but scored in six consecutive frames including four runs in the third frame alone to go ahead for good. With the victory the Snakes improved to 20-7 on the second half of the season and are now five and a half games up in first place in the North Division. Overall Calgary's record improves to 43-27 on the Golden Baseball League season.

Reggie Rivard (4-1) earned the win after throwing seven innings and allowing four runs on only four hits while striking out seven.

At the plate Guillermo Reyes and Julio Ramirez led the charge by both going two-for-three with three runs batted in and two scored.

St. George scored in the top of the first inning when Cody McMorris singled, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on a Mike Castellano run batted in base hit for a 1-0 lead.

The RoadRunners doubled their lead to 2-0 in the third as McMorris singled, stole both second and third base, and scored on a Castellano sacrifice fly.

Calgary responded in the bottom of the inning when Reggie Rivard walked, with two outs Guillermo Reyes doubled in a run, Brent Metheny reached on a throwing error to extend the inning, Metheny stole second base, Julio Ramirez drove in two with a single, and Kevin Price made the score 4-2 with a RBI double.

In the fourth frame the Vipers added a couple of tallies for a 6-2 advantage as Luis Taveras walked, Caonabo Cosme singled, Jonny Kaplan doubled in one, and Reyes hit a sacrifice fly.

Another run was added in the fifth frame by Calgary when Ramirez doubled and scored on a Taveras RBI single for a 7-2 lead.

The scoring continued in the sixth for the Vipers as Kaplan doubled, Reyes singled in a run, and Metheny doubled home another for a 9-2 advantage.

The Snakes hit double-digits the seventh inning when Miller doubled and scored on a Rivard RBI single for a 10-2 lead.

St. George snapped back into the run column in the eighth frame as McMorris reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout, Chris Juarez singled, and Matt Huggins drove in both with a double for a 10-4 score.

For a sixth straight inning Calgary scored in the bottom of the eighth when Metheny launched his 10th home run of the season for a 11-4 score.
