Snakes' Rycroft Won't Return; Senft Chooses Laredo

August 21, 2007 - SPHL (SPHL)
Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

The Columbus Cottonmouths announced today that they will be without the services of both of their former goaltenders, Chad Rycroft and Ryan Senft, for the upcoming season. Rycroft and Senft have been the Snakes' goaltending tandem for the past two seasons, and together helped guide the Snakes to a first-place regular season finish last season.

Rycroft joined the Cottonmouths at the beginning of the team's 2004-05 season. He compiled an 18-17 record, and helped lead the team to the SPHL President's Cup in its inaugural season in the SPHL.

In 2005-06, Rycroft went a remarkable 26-8-3, finishing with a .911 save percentage. He finished second in the league among goaltenders with a 2.90 Goals Against Average (GAA).

Last season, Rycroft finished the season as the top goaltender in the SPHL, finishing with a 3.11 GAA and 23-11-1 record. He was named the SPHL's goaltender of the year.

"For the past three years, Chad has been a leader on this hockey team," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "We always played with a little extra confidence in front of him, and we knew when he played that we had the opportunity to win. We're sorry to see him leave the organization, but he'll always a part of the Cottonmouths family."

Senft originally signed to play with the Snakes for the 2007-08 season. However, an offer from the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League came up, and Senft has chosen to pursue his career at a higher level.

Senft came to the Snakes during the 2005-06 season, recording an 8-7-3 record. He held a 3.38 GAA and finished the season with a .888 save percentage. His numbers improved in his second season, finishing with a 13-7-1 record, and an impressive .907 save percentage. Senft finished the 2006-07 season ranked fourth in the league among goaltenders.

"Senft did a great job for us the past two seasons," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "I hope he does well, and wish him the best. We are now moving on and actively looking for another goalie to fill his roster spot."

The Cottonmouths have signed one new goalie thus far for the upcoming season, rookie Nathan Heinen.

The Snakes open training camp Oct. 15, and opening night of the 2007-08 season is slated for Oct. 26 at the Snake Pit. Be sure to reserve your season tickets now to take advantage of pre-September discounted pricing. For more information, contact the Cottonmouths at 706 571 0086.
