Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

Columbus Cottonmouths forward Tim Green has been named the SPHL player of the week for his efforts this past weekend. In three games, Green collected eight points, including a goal and seven assists.

In the Snakes' 4-1 win on Friday against Fayetteville, Green assisted on both of the Snakes' first period goals. On Saturday, Columbus mounted an impressive comeback. With the Cottonmouths trailing Knoxville 4-0 in the second period, the Snakes offense fought back to record five unanswered goals and walk away with a 5-4 win. Green collected an assist on four of those goals, including the game winner at 11:38 of the third period. The Snakes fell 4-3 in overtime in Knoxville on Sunday, but Green continued his scoring streak, assisting on Columbus' second goal and notching his 22nd goal of the season to tie the game early in the third period.

On the season, Green now has 22 goals and 30 assists in 42 games. He is the Cottonmouths' leading scorer, and ranks eighth among all SPHL players in points scored with 52. Green has been a consistent offense weapon for the Snakes since coming to Columbus in 2004. Over the past four seasons, he has collected 264 points in 198 games, including 90 points in 2005-06 when he finished 3rd in the league in scoring.

The Snakes went 2-0-1 on the weekend, picking up five out of a possible six points. While the Snakes are currently in sixth place, the team standings are very tight as only eight points separate the second and sixth place teams. The top four teams will advance to the SPHL playoffs in late March.

The Cottonmouths host Fayetteville on Thursday and welcome the Huntsville Havoc on Friday. The Snakes will be wearing commemorative Children's Miracle Network jerseys for both games, to be auctioned off immediately following Friday's game. Proceeds will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network at The Medical Center, in combination with the money raised from the annual Tip a Snake dinner and silent auction, scheduled for March 3.
