Sevierville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (26-19) were out hit, but out scored the Birmingham Barons (23-30) for the first time in the series to win 7-4 early Thursday morning at Smokies Park. Tennessee's seven through nine hitters combined for six hits and collected seven RBI in a game that was delayed at the outset by two hours and 13 minutes and ended at 12:36 a.m.
Yadier Molina and Chris Weekly each had two hits and two RBI in the victory. Tennessee got a solid outing from Nick Stocks, who struck out eight Birmingham batters but pitched to a no decision. Juan Figueroa entered in relief of Stocks to get the win. Mike Lyons gave up two hits but no runs in the 9th to notch his league leading 14th save.
Danny Sandoval, Ryan Hankins, and Darron Ingram each had solo home runs for Birmingham. The Barons continued their streak, with their third multi home run game of the series. Jake Meyer (1-1) surrendered three earned runs in the 7th inning, including Molina's bases loaded single, to receive the loss.
The Smokies and Barons meet in the series finale on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Birmingham's Tetsu Yofu (3-1) will start against Josh Pearce (0-0) for the Smokies.
