Knoxville Smokies News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (31-28) were never able to pick up a big hit Thursday afternoon, scoring only one run and were swept in their doubleheader with the Jackson Generals (25-31) at Smokies Park. Jackson won the first game, 5-0, and Tennessee got a complete game from starter Eric Jokisch, but fell 2-1 in the second game.

Smokies starter Alberto Cabrera wasn't fooling the Generals' bats in the first game. Jackson scored two times on four hits in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Generals wouldn't stop there, scoring three more times in the second and third innings combined.

Cabrera (5-3) was hit hard as he gave up five earned runs off of 10 hits in just five innings of work. He walked three and struck out two.

Trey McNutt and Zac Rosscup finished the game tossing two perfect frames for the Smokies in the loss.

Catcher Chad Noble hit his third double of the season and Matt Szczur hit double No. 13 of the season.

In Game Two, after two scoreless innings, the Generals struck first in the third inning. Following a double by James Jones to score Patrick Brady, Jackson took advantage of a costly error by Jokisch to take a 2-0 lead.

The Smokies would get a run in the sixth inning on an RBI-single by Rafael Lopez. Ronald Torreyes, who hit a double to lead off the inning, score from third on Lopez's single.

Jokisch (4-5) went the distance in his start, going seven innings while only giving up four hits and an earned run. He walked two batters and struck out six.

Lopez led the Smokies' offense in Game two going 2-for-3 with an RBI-single.

The Smokies now head to Mobile, Ala. to take on the Mobile BayBears in a five-game series starting Friday, June 7. Tennessee will return to Smokies Park on Thursday, June 13 to take on the Mississippi Braves.
