Sevierville, Tenn. - Tennessee (20-11) picked up a half-game on the Eastern Division leading Carolina Mudcats with a doubleheader split against Greenville (15-15) Tuesday night at Smokies Park. Tennessee eyed a split after a shutout win in game one, but the Braves put those thoughts to rest with a runaway win in game two.

Adam LaRoche homered twice and the Braves chased Juan Pena (1-3) with a three-run fourth inning as Greenville earned a split of the doubleheader with an 8-2 win in the nightcap. LaRoche launched solo shots in the first and third innings while William Collazo worked two scoreless innings for the win.

In game one, Skip Schumaker made his first start since returning from the disabled list and had a hand in three of the Smokies five runs. Schumaker doubled off Brett Evert (1-4) in the first inning and scored on John Gall's single. Bucky Jacobsen followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Caonabo Cosme and stake Tennessee to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Schumaker drove home two runs with a fourth inning single, while Jeremy Dodson and Cosme doubled in the sixth for the game's final run.

Jeremy Cummings (4-2) tossed six shutout innings for the win, while Kevin Sprague struck out the side in the ninth.

Greenville and Tennessee will play their third game in 24 hours with an 11:30 start Wednesday morning. Rhett Parrott (1-2, 3.31) will start for the Smokies opposite Roman Colon (2-0, 2.96).
