
Rays Slide Past Mudcats 4-3

ORLANDO -The Carolina Mudcats entered town with a division- and league -leading 21-9 record and the leagues hottest record. It didn't matter much as the Orlando Rays dropped the Mudcats 4-3 in the first game of their four-game series at Cracker Jack Stadium.
Felix Escalona led the Rays charge with a 2-3 night that included a 2B, run and RBI. Matt Diaz also added two hits, including a double, and Jace Brewer went 2-4 with two runs scored.
Travis Minix (2-0) earned the win for the Rays, going 1.2 IP, allowing one hit and striking out one. Evan Rust earned his second save of the season by pitching a perfect ninth.
The Rays and Mudcats will square off again tomorrow at 7:05, with the Rays sending LHP Jon Switzer (2-2, 5.46) to the mound to take on RHP Randy Messenger (1-2, 7.82).
O-Rays Notes:
· RP John Rocker threw another scoreless inning in his quest to return to the big leagues. The 28-year-old Rocker has thrown three scoreless innings in his three outings with Orlando this season.
· Media who are interested in speaking with Rocker or any of the Orlando Rays are encouraged to take advantage of the O-Rays press availability, which is pre-game during batting practice through 6:15 P.M. and following each home game, approximately 10 minutes after the game ends.
· INF Antonio Perez was promoted to Class AAA Durham while LHP Brian O'Connor was activated from the DL.
