Kodak, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (22-16) ended a 13-game homestand with an 11-5 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts (21-18) Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium. Chattanooga won the series four games to two, but the Smokies outscored the Lookouts 17-5 over the final 12 innings of the series.
Tennessee jumped on Chattanooga starter Connor Curlis (L, 1-1) in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Darius Hill hit the first pitch he saw for a lead-off home run, his third lead-off shot in 2022 and his sixth overall. Hill finished 4-for-5 and a triple shy of the cycle.
Hill got his chance at history in the bottom of the sixth inning, as he laced a double into the left-center field gap. Hill tried to stretch the hit into a triple, but the throw from Chattanooga's center fielder Mike Siani just beat Hill into third. He finished with a team-high nine hits for the series.
Alexander Canario, Bryce Windham and Matt Mervis also went deep in the win, with Mervis' a grand slam in the seventh, the Smokies' second of the season.
The Smokies have an off day Monday before opening a six-game road trip against the Rocket City Trash Pandas in Madison at Toyota Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET when the Smokies send RHP Javier Assad (1-1 3.13 ERA) to the mound.
