Smokies Roll Past Jaxx On Wednesday Afternoon

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 30, 2010) - The Smokies (5-4, 47-31) roll past the Diamond Jaxx (4-5, 43-35) on Wednesday afternoon at Pringles Park, 10-3. The Jaxx still lead the series 2-1 with three games remaining in the six-game set at Pringles Park. The season series between the Jaxx and Smokies is now even at 4-4.

Brett Jackson has been red hot since being promoted to Double-A Tennessee, and Jackson was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI's on Wednesday. Jackson is hitting .474 in his first four games with the Smokies. Brandon Guyer was 4-for-5 for Tennessee with two RBI's and two runs scored. Tony Campana and Josh Vitters each had a pair of hits. Alex Liddi and Jose Yepez had two hits each and so did Leury Bonilla, who had a RBI double, plus a triple.

Steven Hensley (6-5) suffered the loss for the Diamond Jaxx on Wednesday. Hensley surrendered three runs on four hits in 4.1 innings. He struck out four and walked two. Chris Carpenter (6-3) wins for Tennessee and fired five scoreless innings on five hits.

The Smokies scored first in the top of the first inning to go up 1-0. Brett Jackson singled and stole second, then came in to score on a groundout by Blake Lalli.

Tennessee added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Marwin Gonzalez grounded out to bring Josh Vitters home from third base. Brett Jackson singled in Brandon Guyer and the Smokies took a 3-0 advantage.

Robinson Chrinos hit a three-run homerun that just grazed the left field fair pole in the top of the fifth inning. The Smokies went up 6-0.

Brett Jackson continued his onslaught at the plate with his second double and third hit of the game in the top of the sixth that scored two runs. The Smokies opened up the game and led 8-0.

Leury Bonilla stopped the scoring drought for the Jaxx with a a two out RBI triple that scored Jose Yepez in the bottom of the sixth. The Jaxx trailed 8-1.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Brandon Guyer popped up a ball that Leury Bonilla lost in the sun. it dropped on the infield and ended up as a RBI double for Guyer. The run put the Smokies up 9-1.

After a run by Tennessee in the top of the ninth, the Jaxx a two-RBI base hit from Brandon Haveman in the bottom half that made the final score 10-3 Smokies

The Jaxx and Smokies continue their series on Thursday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch at 7:05. RHP Dan Cortes (4-2, 5.59) will take the mound for the Diamond Jaxx and All-Star RHP Hung-Wen Chen (8-5, 2.70) takes the hill for Tennessee.
