Knoxville Smokies News Release
Jacksonville, Fla. - Gookie Dawkins and Victor Diaz each homered and Joel Hanrahan allowed just one run over seven innings as Jacksonville (26-30) turned back Tennessee (32-25). The loss ended Tennessee's three game win streak.
Jacksonville starter Joel Hanrahan (6-2) induced three double plays in the first three innings and four on the evening. The Smokies scored their lone run in the seventh against Hanrahan. Bucky Jacobsen was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on Corey Erickson's single. Yadier Molina singled home Jacobsen, but John Nelson bounced into an inning ending double play to end the threat.
Rhett Parrott (2-6) allowed six runs over five innings, including home runs to Gookie Dawkins and Victor Diaz.
The final game of the series will pit Jeremy Cummings (5-4, 4.13) against Tom Farmer (4-3, 3.50) Tuesday night at 7:05.
Tennessee returns home Thursday to face division leading Carolina. St. Louis closer Jason Isringhausen will make a rehab start for Tennessee Thursday night. Isringhausen is expected to make three starts for the Smokies before his return to the big leagues.
