BayBears roughed up by Huntsville

Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Stars scored early and often against BayBears' starter Roger Deago and went on to cruise to an 11-3 victory Monday night. Deago (4-3) allowed 10 runs (six earned) on 10 base hits in just three and two-thirds innings of work.

The Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After two were out four straight Huntsville batters reached base with three crossing the plate, capped by two run single by Brandon Gemoll.

Huntsville added single tallies in the second and third innings, but broke the game wide open in the fourth. The Stars sent eight hitters to the plate and at on point collected three straight RBI hits. Deago's final batter of the game was Richard Paz who drove a two-run homerun over the wall in leftfield.

Chris Rojas came in out of the pen and worked and inning and a third, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out two. Mike Bumstead and Rusty Tucker followed Rojas to combine for the final three shutout frames.

The BayBears did not score until the ninth inning against Stars' starter Luis Martinez. Trailing 11-0 Mobile plated three unearned runs. Khalil Greene drove in Jake Gautreau with a single to center and Danny Bravo followed a walk to Yamid Haad with a two-run single to left.

The BayBears will try to salvage one victory in their five-game series with Huntsville. RHP Steve Watkins (3-3; 4.73) will get the start for Mobile against the Stars' RHP Pedro Liriano (4-5, 2.91). The first pitch is set for 12:05.
