Rays Rip Lookouts

ORLANDO - The Orlando Rays (26-30) held the Chattanooga Lookouts (26-31) to two hits on Monday, en route to a 5-0 win at Cracker Jack Stadium. A few walks, singles and a homerun were all the Rays offense needed with solid defense backing them up.

RHP Jose Veras (2-5) pitched his best game of the season striking out seven, with two hits, and no runs coming across the plate for eight innings. RHP Evan Rust finished out the night allowing only one hit in the ninth.

DH Pete LaForest had a stellar night at the plate going 3-3 with a homerun, two singles, and a walk. OF Matt Diaz contributed to the attack with a 3-4 night scoring 2 runs and 2 RBI. Diaz continues to lead the Southern League with his batting average.

Chattanooga added eight strikeouts to their record and LHP John Koronka dropped to 4-5 on the year. The O-Rays will conclude their series against the Chattanooga Lookouts with a 7:05 start on Tuesday. LHP Jon Switzer (3-5, 4.60) will pitch for the Rays, while the Lookouts counter with RHP Josh Hall (2-5, 2.98).
