Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - While Wednesday afternoon's game between the Smokies and Lookouts was marked by late-inning rallies by Tennessee, tonight's match-up involved a front-loaded approach in a Smokies' 6-4 win at AT&T Field.
After an initial rain delay, the Smokies came out of the gate swinging. A leadoff triple from Matt Camp set-up an RBI Nate Spears single. Spears would eventually find his way home on a Jake Fox force out.
Chris Valaika, making his debut in a Lookouts' uniform, ingratiated himself to his new team in a big way by hitting a solo shot in the first inning.
Tennessee would stretch out their lead to 5-1 on a three-run shot from Steve Clevenger.
Chattanooga added a run in the bottom portion of the third, when a Jerry Gil sac fly brought home Mike Griffin.
Gil would strike again in the fifth by adding another RBI to his stat-line on a double, which plated Valaika.
With their lead continuing to shrink, the Smokies added an insurance run in the sixth on a Matt Camp RBI single.
Cody Strait hit a homer in the sixth to bring the score to 6-4, but both teams would fail to score for the remainder of the contest.
Tanner Watson (1-1) was credited with the win in relief, throwing two innings and yielding two runs on four hits and two walks.
James Henderson pitched the final two frames to notch his first save of the season.
James Avery dropped to 0-2 on the season. In five innings of work, he relinquished five runs on eight hits and three walks, while striking out three in the losing effort.
The Lookouts and Tennessee will wrap-up their series, tomorrow at 7:15 PM. The promotion for the evening will be Lookouts Umbrella Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans, sponsored by Comcast! Also, fireworks will follow the game, brought to you by Wendy's.
