Smokies Drop Third Straight

MOBILE, AL - The Tennessee Smokies lost 9-0 to the Mobile BayBears on Sunday night in Mobile. Tennessee's offense was only able to produce two hits in the contest.

Mobile jumped out to an early lead on a pair of RBI-doubles in the first inning that made it 3-0. A solo home run and a groundout in the fourth inning led to a 5-0 BayBears advantage.

The Smokies only had one hit in the first six innings of the game, and it came courtesy of Ian Rice double in the second inning. Mobile added to its lead with a sac fly in the sixth inning, making it 6-0. Later in the frame, the BayBears scored two more on a double and a single to increase the lead to 8-0.

A solo home run in the eighth inning made it a 9-0 final. Eddy Martinez accounted for the only other Tennessee hit.

Matt Swarmer started the game on the mound for the Smokies. Swarmer pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks. It was the fourth start of the year for Swarmer at the Double-A level since he was called up. Sunday's start marked a season-high in innings-pitched for Swarmer since joining the Smokies.

Scott Effross pitched the sixth inning, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk. James Norwood threw 0.2 innings and Daniel Spingola pitched the final 1.1 innings for Tennessee.

Tennessee and Mobile are set to meet for the fifth game of the series on Monday at 7:35 p.m. ET. The Smokies will send Duncan Robinson (3-1, 3.36 ERA) to the mound and Mobile will counter with Joe Gatto (1-2, 8.82 ERA). Robinson has only allowed more than three earned runs once in his last 10 starts and is holding batters to a .232 batting average in June.
