Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Arizona Diamondbacks, dropped a 4-2 decision to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Sunday evening, done in by a slow offensive start and strong pitching by the visitors. The Generals (2-2 Second Half) dropped their first back to back contests since June 5-6, allowing Pensacola (2-2 Second Half) to even the series.
With right-hander Taylor Widener (4-4, 2.81 ERA) on the hill, Jackson stayed close through the first two innings. A solo home run by Pensacola's Jose Siri in the third put the Blue Wahoos in front, with Siri collecting his second homer in as many nights. Widener would give up runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings as well, departing after six with five strikeouts, one walk, and a 4-0 deficit. The allowance by Widener was his largest to an opponent since his first start of the year on April 6, but Kevin Ginkel and Brad Goldberg each tacked on scoreless appearances to give the Generals a fighting chance late in the contest. Ginkel's two shutout innings increased his streak to 11.1 scoreless innings of relief in his Jackson debut, besting the previous season-high mark of 11.0 that Colin Poche set in April.
Jamie Westbrook plated Domingo Leyba with a single for the Generals' first run in the sixth inning, breaking up the shutout for Pensacola's Vladimir Gutierrez (4-8, 5.33 ERA). Gutierrez limited Jackson to only four hits in 5.2 innings, and his bullpen gave up only one run thereafter. Daniel Robertson's solo home run in the seventh marked his second consecutive night with a dinger, as Robertson and Jose Siri matched each other in a center-fielder slugging competition. Rudy Flores finished with a pair of hits, but Jackson's offense arrived too little and too late overall.
