Kodak, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (39-36, 2-4) lost their series to the Rocket City Trash Pandas (45-30, 4-2) in a 4-2 loss Sunday evening at Smokies Stadium.
RHP Walker Powell (L, 0-1) made his Double-A debut for the Smokies in place of Javier Assad -- who was promoted to Triple-A Iowa -- and was solid over four innings of work. He struck out three but took the loss, allowing two earned runs.
Jake Slaughter capped off a strong series with a three-hit game. The Smokies' third baseman drove in a run and scored one of their two runs. Slaughter finished the series with six hits second among the Smokies for the week.
The Smokies will begin a six-game series with the Birmingham Barons Monday night at Regions Field in Birmingham in a special Independence Day game. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. ET when the Smokies send LHP Brandon Leibrandt (2-2, 3.64 ERA) to the mound against RHP Scott Blewett (3-2, 5.48 ERA). The Smokies will host the Biloxi Shuckers in its next homestand July 12-17 at Smokies Stadium. Thursday, July 14 is Throwback and Dollar-Hot-Dog Night. Smokies Stadium will host Corona Hard Seltzer Night on July 15, and Saturday, July 16 will be Grateful Dead Night featuring a postgame concert by The Stolen Faces.
