Barons Take Third Straight from Lookouts in 7-3 Win
July 3, 2022 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release
The Barons continued their second half dominance in a 7-3 victory over the Lookouts on Saturday night.
Birmingham didn't waste any time with two runs in the first inning. Both runs were generated on a ground ball single up the middle by Moises Castillo. In the bottom half of the first inning, Chattanooga cut the deficit in half with a ground ball single to center field of their own, this one off the bat of Alex McGarry.
Raudy Read helped the Barons respond right away in the next half inning with his 10th homer of the season. That got the ball rolling with D.J. Burt following up with a sacrifice fly to bring Ian Dawkins in. Tyler Neslony's league-leading 25th double of the season plated Evan Skoug. After the second inning, Birmingham led 5-1.
The lead swelled in the fourth when Jose Rodriguez hit a ground ball to the second baseman, Ivan Johnson. His error allowed Burt to score. Rodriguez stole second and third base before a wild pitch allowed him to score. The two Barons runs in the fourth were immediately neutralized by Nick Quintana's RBI double and Johnson's RBI single to make it 7-3 in favor of Birmingham.
Tomorrow's series finale is set for 5:15 CT. Kaleb Roper (2-4, 6.55) will start for the Barons. Carson Spiers (0-2, 4.75) gets the nod for the Lookouts.
