Blue Wahoos outfielder Bryson Smith is headed to the disabled list after fracturing his leg while making an outstanding catch leaping into the wall during Saturday night's game against the Mobile BayBears.
Smith has been one of the Wahoos most consistently productive hitters this season with a .275 average with 5 home runs and 15 RBI in 60 games. His average was tops on the team, while his home run totals were good for second. The outfielder has played in parts of the last two seasons with Pensacola. He was originally drafted by the Reds in 34th round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Florida.
Taking his place on the roster is INF Marquez Smith from Advanced-A Bakersfield. He was leading the Blaze with a .301 average and 8 home runs at the time of his promotion. He also has 26 RBI with the Reds High-A affiliate.
Smith was drafted four times before signing with the Cubs as an 8th round pick out of Clemson in 2007. He's spent seven seasons in the minor leagues compiling a .287 average in 663 lifetime minor league games. He has 87 career home runs with 371 RBI.
