FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Cody Smith held the Morehead City Marlins to just one run and the Fayetteville SwampDogs offense assembled a four run fourth to cruise to their third straight win with a 7-1 victory Friday night at The Swamp.
Smith (Chowan) scattered five hits and two walks in six and two thirds innings before turning things over to Adam Pennington (Southeast Missouri) and Will Ziebol (Point) for the final seven outs.
Four different SwampDogs had multi-hit games in the team's third straight game with a double-digit hit total. Pat Donnelly (Lehigh) and Nick Maton (Eastern Illinois) each drove in two runs as apart of two separate scoring innings for the SwampDogs.
With the excellent start Smith earned the win to improve to 1-2. Anthony Morris was handed the loss to fall to 2-1 on the year.
The SwampDogs third straight victory bumps their record to 8-13 while the Marlins fall to 11-10.
The teams finish a home-and-home series in Morehead City at 7:05pm.
