Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - Despite an early two run lead, the SwampDogs fell behind in the sixth inning and ultimately fell 3-2 to the Morehead City Marlins Saturday at Puck O'Neill Field.
John Luke Curtis struck out the final eight SwampDogs and nine of the ten outs he recorded to seal the win for the Marlins. It was essentially the moment Curtis came into the game that turned the tide for Morehead City. The SwampDogs had a runner on, before Curtis ended the inning with his strike out. Christian Campbell doubled and then scored on a two-out single from Cole Bedford. Curtis earned the win by recording the final nine outs.
The SwampDogs staked the early lead behind starter Mike Austin (UMBC) in the second inning. Dan Leckie (Layfayette College) doubled home a pair of runs after two errors by the Marlin's defense.
The Marlins struck in the fourth on a two run homer by Chase Chambers to tie the game against Austin.
The loss snapped a three game losing streak for the SwampDogs. The 'Dogs return home Monday for the first of three straight games at The Swamp. First pitch against the Gastonia Grizzlies is Monday night.
