Plymouth Whalers News Release

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP - The Plymouth Whalers rode Jeremy Smith's second straight shutout en route to a 3-0 victory over the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in an Ontario Hockey League game played Friday night before 2,522 at the Compuware Sports Arena.

Plymouth wins their third straight game and is now 8-4-0-0. Toronto is now 7-8-0-0.

Chris Terry (4th of the season), Tom Sestito (5th) and James Neal (team-leading 10th) all scored for Plymouth.

Smith - from Brownstown - stopped all 30 Toronto shots he faced as the game's first star. Smith shut out Windsor, 4-0, on Oct. 19 at Windsor Arena to get the streak started. The last Plymouth goaltender to pitch consecutive shutouts is Ryan Nie, on March 24 and 26, 2004, against the Kitchener Rangers in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Terry scored at 6:32 of the first period to give Plymouth a 1-0 lead when he skated into the Toronto zone on the left wing, moved in on Toronto goaltender Wayne Savage, faked a pass to Evan Brophey on the right wing and stuffed the puck by Savage five-hole.

Sestito gave Plymouth a 2-0 lead at 0:38 of the third period when he deflected Steve Ward's hard shot from the point by Savage. Neal - who figured in on all three Plymouth goals as the game's second star - completed the scoring when he skated from the right dot in the Toronto zone to the lower rim of the left circle and beat Savage with a well-placed shot.

Toronto outshot Plymouth, 30-26, but Smith was the difference.

Plymouth is back in action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at the Compuware Sports Arena when they host Kitchener.

It will be Trick or Treat Night for all Whalers fans. Former Plymouth captain Jared Newman (Lincoln Park) will also be on hand to drop a ceremonial opening faceoff and then sign autographs.

Tickets are available by calling the Compuware Sports Arena at (734) 453-8400 or by going to Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.

The Whalers complete a busy weekend Sunday afternoon in Saginaw against the Spirit. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at the Dow Event Center.
