Colorado Mammoth News Release
Denver, Colo. - The Colorado Mammoth placed rookie forward Curtis Smith on the National Lacrosse League injured reserve list Wednesday.
Smith, Colorado's first choice in the 2003 entry draft, broke his left hand in the first quarter of the Mammoth's 13-12 loss at San Jose on Saturday night. He is expected to be out four weeks. Smith, who recorded two assists in his NLL debut the previous night in the Mammoth's 12-11 win over Arizona, fell hard on the hand after applying a check to a San Jose player, breaking the metacarpal bone.
Smith's placement on IR vacated a roster spot that Colorado general manager Steve Govett announced would be filled by forward Geoff Bieging. Bieging, a second-year practice player for the Mammoth, played four years at the University of Denver before joining the organization prior to last season.
