Harrisburg Heat News Release
Harrisburg, PA - Paolo Ceccarelli made 21 saves in his first start since February 22 and Zoran Karic scored his 1,700th career point, but the Harrisburg Heat fell by the score of 16-13 to the Philadelphia KiXX in front of 3,074 fans at the First Union Spectrum on Sunday. With the loss, Harrisburg slides to 10-32 on the season with two games, both at home, remaining. Philadelphia improves to 28-14 with the win.
Chris Handsor curled a 3pg past Ceccarelli to the near post at 2:33 of the first to put Philly up 3-0 early, and Goran Vasic took a long outlet from goalkeeper Stuart Dobson (8 saves in the win) and pounded it home at 4:57 to make it 5-0. After Harrisburg's Allen Eller was penalized for Delay of Game at 9:31, Vasic converted the ensuing shootout attempt and Philly led 6-0 after one.
Nick Corneli, playing up top as the Heat looked to generate points, got Harrisburg on the board at 1:01 of the second when he poked a 2pg under Dobson on a breakaway. After Kevin Sloan's 2pg at 4:02 made it 8-2, the Heat's Jason Webb (5:16) and Philly's Les Lunsford (6:30) exchanged 2pgs before Karic banged a long 3pg off a KiXX defender and past Dobson to produce a 10-7 halftime score in favor of the KiXX.
Philadelphia tightened their grip on this one when Sloan one-timed a Matt Brooks lob underneath Ceccarelli from the left wing, and it was 12-7, KiXX. Allen Eller responded by finishing a give-and-go with Matt Tanzini for a 2pg at 11:29, but Sloan responded again, this time with a double from the right wing at 14:51, and Philadelphia led 14-9 after three quarters of play.
Matt Knowles volleyed a restart past Dobson at 2:24 of the fourth and the Heat had some hope. Until, that is, Adam Bruckner slipped a deuce (his first goal of the year) under Ceccarelli at 13:24 to make it 16-11. With Chris Morman on as the sixth attacker, Danny Barber poked home a final 2pg at 14:20, but Philadelphia held on to nab the 16-13 win.
Sloan led the KiXX with three 2pgs for six points, and Handsor and Vasic added four points apiece.
NOTES: Zoran Karic finished with 5 points on the night, giving him 1,701 in his illustrious career...Harrisburg returns to the Farm Show Arena this weekend to play its final two games of the 2001-02 season. The Heat hosts Philadelphia on Saturday, April 13 (7:35 p.m.) and Cleveland on Sunday, April 14 (6:05 p.m.).
