Sliders' Bullpen Hands Bombers Series Sweep
June 13, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders dropped the back end of their home and home series with the Dubois County Bombers with a 3-1 loss tonight at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN. The Bombers took a 1-0 lead in the very first inning on a bloop single by 3B Cody Daily. Sliders' starter Zac Wittmus did a great job of giving up only one run in that inning as he left the bases loaded. He didn't give up any runs for the rest of his start but unfortunately Alex Britt equaled him on the other side. The Sliders didn't score until a David Kerian sacrifice fly drove in Mike Fitzgerald to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth. For the second straight night, it was the bullpen who was the culprit, as Nick Capra walked in two runs with the bases loaded in the seventh to give Dubois County all the runs they needed. From there, the Sliders would put runners on second and third with nobody out in the ninth, but failed to score, dropping the Sliders to 3-11 on the season and 0-4 against the first place Bombers. The Springfield Sliders will return home tomorrow for the first game of a two game series against the Terre Haute Rex. First pitch for tomorrow and Friday's games is 6:35 at Robin Roberts Stadium and both games can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
