Kolin Conner Driving Bombers Offense

June 13, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

Bombers catcher Kolin Conner did not have a set position or playing time through the Bombers' first eight or so games. He split time with another catcher, Chris Tavares, and played some time at first base as well, as regular first baseman Jeff Zahn was needed to play left field until the Bombers' full compliment of outfielders reported.

The days of Conner looking for playing time may seem a little curious now; he hit a three-run homerun as well as a go-ahead grand slam in Tuesday night's 8-5 win in Srpignfield against the Sliders. If you're keeping count, that's seven of the eight Bombers' runs he knocked in.

This performance came on the heels of Conner's game Sunday against Hannibal, where he smacked a home run and a double, drove in three runs and scored two. These recent outbursts have Conners' RBI total up to 16, good for the Prospect League lead.

A look back shows how drastically Conner has turned his season around. Through his first five games, his average hovered at .100. But field manager Ryan Anderson stuck with him, and he began his upswing in Danville June 5 with a three-run triple.

Conner has now driven in fifteen runs in his last five games - with a least one in each game - after only notching one RBI through his first five. He has four doubles for the season to go with his triple and three home runs, and Conner's on-base percentage is up to .356 as he's raised his average to .300 (12 hits in 40 at bats), and his slugging percentage sits at a fat .675. (Statistics as of June 13.)

How long Conner can keep this streak up in unknown, but Bombers fans can probably expect two things: Conner won't be splitting much time with anyone for the next few games, and he may just move up in the batting order.
