Bluesox Former Player McChesney Signs with Rays

Butler, PA - June 13, 2012 - Former Butler BlueSox catcher Ryan McChesney has signed with the Tampa Bay Rays as a free agent and will join their minor league program this summer.

McChesney, who played for the BlueSox in their inaugural season 2009, had a big senior season at Florida Tech where he lead the team in batting average (.368), slugging percentage (.601), on-base percentage (.478), RBIs (39), home runs (7), and total bases (98). He was named to the NCBWA All- South Region and the ABCA/Rawlings All-South region.

The Lehigh cres, Florida native hit .202 in 48 games with the BlueSox and tied for team high's with home runs (4), and walks (30). He also led position players with a .987 fielding percentage as a catcher.

McChesney is the third Florida Tech player to enter the Major Leagues after the first two were drafted last week, according to Florida Tech's website. He will start with the Gulf Coast League Rays in Port Charlotte, Florida.

There were 23 current and former Prospect League players drafted this year, including Butler's all-time home run leader Shayne Houck.

Jacke Healey was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 27th round in 2010 and Kevan Smith was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 7th round in 2011.
