
Three Butler-Native BlueSox Selected in MLB Draft

For the seventh straight year at least one former Butler BlueSox player, was selected in the MLB first-year player draft, but for the first time some hometown players that wore a BlueSox uniform had their names called.
Butler High School graduates Collin McKee and Mick Fennell were both selected Saturday. McKee went to Houston Astros in the 1 8th round and Fennell was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 22nd round. David Bednar from Mars, PA in southern Butler County and Lafayette was taken by San Diego in the 35th round.
McKee, a right handed pitcher, struck out 141 Â batters and only allowed 55Â hits in 91 Â innings pitched at Mercyhurst this spring.
In his career with the Lakers he recorded 266 strikeouts, helping Mercyhurst reach the Division II College World Series in 201 5.
McKee was a late season addition for the BlueSox in 201 4. He struck out 1 5, allowing only one run in nine innings of relief helping the BlueSox reach postseason for the first time in franchise history.
Fennell was an outfielder/pitcher at California University of Pennsylvania, where he hit .385 this spring with 1 0Â doubles, seven triples and eight homers. He struck out only eight times, drew 25Â walks and stole 22Â bases. He made seven starts on the mound and had 28Â strikeouts in 33Â innings pitched.
Like McKee, Fennell played for the BlueSox in '1 4. He led the team with a .31 8 batting average and tied for the team lead with nine doubles. Fennell had more walks, 1 7, than strikeouts, 1 5, in 1 32Â at-bats.
Bednar carried a 3.92 ERA in 59 innings pitched, while striking out 70 in the spring at Lafayette. He played half a season with Butler in '1 4, making six starts, going 3-2 with 39 strikeouts in 30.1 innings.
The BlueSox have had 15 former players drafted in their eight year history.
