
Slammers Split Doubleheader

Joliet Slammers News Release
The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-split a doubleheader on Monday with Traverse City. The Slammers won game one 2-0 and dropped game two 5-3.
The Slammers won game one of the doubleheader thanks to a great performance by Andrew Busby. He threw a three-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk. He retired ten in a row at one point and induced 11 groundouts. Alex Phillips went the first five innings for Traverse City and allowed only two hits but walked six. The Slammers picked up their last two hits against reliever Cameron Giannini. Grant DeBruin had three of Joliet's four hits and drove in a run. Adam Giacalone picked up the other hit and JD Dorgan's sacrifice fly drove in the other run.
Joliet scored in the 1st inning of game two as DeBruin picked up an RBI double to give them a 1-0 lead. He now has an 11-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 34 of his last 37 games. In the bottom of the inning Traverse City scored twice on a 2-run double from Jovan Rosa to take a 2-1 lead against Slammers' starter Brett Zawacki. Joliet took back the lead with a 2-run 4th. Adrian English ripped a 2-run double and scored on a Chris Epps RBI single to make the Joliet advantage 3-2. The Beach Bums scored the final three runs of the game to come out on top. Two of them came in the 5th on a RBI double from Greg Harisis and a sacrifice fly from Rosa. Their final run scored in the 6th on a wild pitch. DeBruin finished 5 for 7 on the day for Joliet.
These two teams wrap up their three-game series on Tuesday at 6:05pm central time. Joliet will return for a six-game home-stand beginning Wednesday July 30th at 7:05pm. The Frontier Greys and then the Schaumburg Boomers will be the opposition in Joliet. There will be a Fireworks Friday on August 1st that will also be Princess Night at Silver Cross Field.
