Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - Evansville Otters (37-22) first baseman Nik Balog and righty Trevor Walch were named Frontier League player and pitcher of the week, respectfully, on Monday afternoon.

It is the third player of the week honor for an Evansville Otter this season. Outfielder Chris Sweeney was named player of the week for the time period ending on July 14.

Balog hit .469 this week with two home runs and five runs batted in. The Saratoga, California native is hitting a team best .312 this season, leading the Otters into a tie for first place in the Frontier League East Division.

"Nik had a great week at the plate and he's been a very consistent everyday player throughout the season," said manager Andy McCauley. "It is great to see him get the recognition."

Walch went 2-0 this week with a 0.00 ERA. He went 7.0 scoreless, two-hit innings at Windy City in a win on July 21 and followed it up with 8.0 innings at Gateway on July 26, yielding just two unearned runs in another victor. Walch has not allowed an earned run in 27 2/3 innings pitched, lowering his season ERA to 1.80, second lowest in the Frontier League.

"It's a good accomplishment," said Walch. "I've been throwing well and am glad that the team has been putting up runs and playing great defense behind me. I wouldn't have been where I am without their solid play."

Evansville will now go for sole possession of first place in the East Division on Monday night in a doubleheader sponsored by Carson's Brewery.

The Otters and Wild Things will play two, seven-inning games. It is also $1 peanuts night at Bosse Field. Game one will feature Washington right-hander Troy Marks (1-0, 1.68 ERA) against Evansville lefty Blake Monar (1-3, 6.44). RHP Mike DeLong will make his Otters debut in game two against Wild Things left-hander Zach LeBarron. First pitch is 5:35 pm CDT. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 812-435-8686. The game will also be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski and color commentator Bill McKeon have the call beginning at 5:15 pm CDT.
