
Slammers Drop Game 1 in Pivotal Series with Schaumburg

Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy were unable to pull out a victory, despite a good contest against the 3rd place Boomers. The Slammers would put up 5 runs, but struck out 10 times at the plate, fueling the 6-5 loss.
Scoring began in the first inning when Danny Zardon hit a sacrifice fly into right to tie the game at 1. Later in the inning, R.J. Thompson would hit a 2 run homer over the right field wall to tally his first HR of the season.
Thompson would cross the plate again in the 4th inning following a Trenton Hill RBI single giving the Slammers a 4-2 lead. However, the Boomers would chip away with a 2 RBI double in the 5th making it 5-4.
In the 7th, Nick Oddo of Schaumburg would send a ball over the right field wall to tie the game. Another home run would be hit in the 9th by Ty Moore to give the Boomers a 6-5 victory.
Tonight's Merchants and Manufacturers Player of the Game goes to R.J Thompson for his great performance at the plate (2-4, 2 RBIs, 1 HR, 2 R). The Slammers return on Saturday for game 2 of the series.
