River City Rascals News Release

MARION, IL--The River City Rascals suffered their second sweep in a week on Thursday night at Rent One Park, dropping the series finale against the Southern Illinois Miners 3-2. Max Dutto put the Miners up for good with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and made a tremendous sliding stop and throw to first to end the game.

The Miners scored in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double off the left field wall by Romeo Cortina, but the Rascals tied the game at one after Mike Jurgella scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth inning. After a one-out single from Clint Freeman, Jurgella drove a double down the left field line, but Freeman was thrown out at the plate. Jurella advanced to third on the throw, allowing him to score on the wild pitch.

After Dutto's homer, his first with the team, put the Miners back in front, the Rascals made it a one-run game on an RBI single from Ransom LaLonde in the top of the seventh. LaLonde finished the night with three hits, including a double.

The Rascals had runners at first and second base with one out in the top of the ninth, but Zach Hartman buckled down to retire the next two batters in order and earn his first save of the season.

Geno Encina (2-6) earned the win for the Miners, going six innings, allowing five hits, one run, no walks and striking out six. Rascals starter Hector Hernandez (8-4) suffered the loss, going seven innings and allowing three runs, three walks and also striking out six.

The Rascals (32-31) travel back home to begin a seven-game homestand, starting tomorrow night in the series opener against the Evansville Otters at CarShield Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm CT. Jonny Ortiz will make the start on the mound for the Rascals.
