Joliet Slammers News Release

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-were shutout by the Rockford Aviators 6-0 on Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field.

The Aviators scored twice in the 1st inning off Joliet start Matt Costello. Tanner Witt came through with a 2-run single to give Rockford the early lead. The game then became a battle of the starters for the next five innings. Kyle Brueggemann was sharp from the very beginning for Rockford. He allowed just one hit through the first five innings. At one point he retired nine in a row. Costello, meanwhile, settled in to retire ten straight Rockford batters. They finally got to him and a few Joliet relievers with one run in the 6th and three more in the 7th to make the score 6-0. Kalaika Kahoohalahala drove in two runs while Edgar Corcino and Eligah Trail had one RBI apiece. The Slammers picked up a few singles late in the game but Brueggeman finished the contest with a complete game 5-hit shutout for the victory. He struckout seven and walked none. Costello suffered the loss but struckout seven batters as well with just one walk. Bobby Hillier made his Slammers debut and pitched well in two shutout innings of relief to close out the game.

In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $250 to lucky fan, Jack Warner, as part of their Amazing August promotion. Each home game in August will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to a lucky winner was $5000.

Joliet continues their three-game series vs. Rockford with an Awareness Wednesday that will feature Ed Randall's Fans for the Cure organization, concerning Prostate Cancer. The series concludes with Thirsty Thursday that will also be Jimmy Buffet night, so break out your Hawaiian shirts and turn Silver Cross Field tropical.
