Skyrockets freeze Heatwave

Fresno, CA. The ABA San Jose Skyrockets (9-3) traveled to Fresno to take on the Heatwave (0-9) in a New Year's Eve ABA showdown between these two regional rivals. The Skyrockets broke away early in the game, going on a 17-0 run from the outset and never relinquished the lead. Despite losing two of their big men just a few days ago, the Skyrockets played a balanced game, with key scoring coming from Matt Luedke with 7 three-pointers and finishing with 32 points. Lamar Castile continued on his consistant attack, scoring 25 points with Jason Smith contributing 18. San Jose had its highest scoring game to date with seven players in double figures. Other key Skyrocket scorers were Howard with 16, Pope with 14, Lumpkin with 13 and Buck with 10.

The Heatwave answered back midway in the 3rd quarter, coming within 13 points of San Jose. The Skyrockets quickly regrouped and reasserted its dominance, finishing the game strongly with the final score of 153-118. The Heatwave were led with Miller with 27, followed by Logan with 23 and Anderson with 21. Cornelius, Minor and Johnson contributed 18, 11 and 16 respectively.
