
Skyhawks Walk Past Pride, 7-5

(NASHUA, N.H. - July 7th, 2008) Nashua Pride (18-23) pitchers combined to walk eleven hitters, helping the Sussex Skyhawks (23-19) to a 7-5 victory, in front of 1102 fans at Historic Holman Stadium on Monday night.
Sussex right fielder Jorge Moreno broke open a 3-2 game in the Top 6th with a towering two run homerun to deep left field off of Pride reliever Issac Burkett (0-2) that also drove in shortstop Kevin Rios who reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout with two outs in the inning. Moreno finished the game 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Also contributing to the Skyhawks Can-Am leading offense was Yohanny Valera (2-for-4, three RBI) and Jay Yaconetti (3-for-5, two runs scored).
Burkett took the loss for Nashua, going two and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on one hit, three walks and three strikeouts. Reliever Michael Joyce came in to pitch a perfect 7th; Rich Garces pitched the 8th, giving up one run on two hits, striking out one while Andrew Weimer got the call in the 9th frame, giving up one run on two hits while walking two. Pride starting pitcher Lance Stevens (4-3) lasted just three and one-third innings, giving up two runs (one earned), on four hits, while striking out one and issuing six walks.
Skyhawks starter Craig Snipp (4-2) recorded the win while holding the Pride offense to two runs through six and one-third innings, giving up eight hits and striking out four. Sussex reliever Khalid Afify pitched one inning, giving up two runs on three hits. Reliever Matt Petrusek earned his 9th save of the season by recording the final five outs of the game, yielding one run on two hits, while striking out two.
First Baseman Bryan Duplissie continued his hot hitting, blasting two homeruns in his first two at-bats, both game tying shots in the 2nd and 4th innings. He finished the night 2-for-4. Also collecting two hits for the Pride were Ismael Castro (2-for-4, two RBI), Dennis Abreu (2-for-4) and Aregenis Tavarez (2-for-4, one run scored).
The Pride will finish out their two game series with the Skyhawks tomorrow night, at 7:05pm, when they send right-hander Nicolas Suero (2-4, 4.01 ERA) to the mound. The Skyhawks will counter with fellow righty Matt Salvato (3-2, 3.98 ERA).
