
Scalabrini, Simard Sweep Weekly Awards for Capitales

DURHAM, NC - PA-Sportsticker, the Can-Am League's official statistician, has selected Quebec Capitales DH Pat Scalabrini and RHP Michel Simard as the Can-Am League Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
Scalabrini played in six games this past week for the first place Capitales. He batted .480 with two home runs, eight RBI, four runs scored and 12 hits. Scalabrini in 25 at-bats slugged .800 and had on-base percentage of .500. The Waterville, QC resident is currently hitting.329 with 9 HR, 33 RBI, 52 hits and a .563 slugging percentage. Scalabrini is first in the Can-Am in home runs, tied for third in RBI and fifth in slugging percentage.
The 31-year-old was signed by the Capitales in May of 2001. Scalabrini has also played with independent clubs of St. Paul and Winnipeg as well as in the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2005.
Simard had two solid outings for Quebec this past week. He accumulated a record of 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA in 16 innings pitched. Simard allowed only one earned run on 10 hits with two walks and 15 strikeouts. The Charlesbourg, QC resident is 6-1 on the year with an earned run average of 1.89 ERA in nine starts. He is third in the league in ERA and innings pitched (62), fourth in strikeouts (47) and tied for fourth in wins.
The 26-year-old was a 25th round selection of the Los Angeles of Anaheim in 2002. He pitched four seasons in the Angels organization before joining Quebec last season. In 2007, Simard went 9-8 with a 3.53 ERA in 127 1/3 innings pitched.
