Skyhawks Sneak Past Pride 8-7

(Augusta, N.J., June 17, 2008) The Sussex Skyhawks walked-off with a win, 8-7, over the Nashua Pride at Skylands Park, on a bases loaded throwing error by Pride catcher Luis Rodriguez that plated pinch runner Nick Vadaro from third base to win the game.

The Pride rallied twice in the game from being down 4-0 and 5-4, to take a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Closer Andrew Weimer was not able to hold the lead and suffered his first blown save and loss of the season.

Skyhawks reliever Matthew Petrusek earned the win, having pitched just one out in the top of the ninth inning. Sussex's starter Gary Galvez had a no-decision, lasting six and one-third innings, giving up seven runs, on ten hits, two walks and three strike outs.

Pride starter Jarrett Stawarz also factored in with a no-decision, going six innings, allowing five runs, on nine hits, two walks and two strike outs.

Nashua's Bryan Duplissie extended his league leading doubles total to 12, going 3-for-5 with a pair of two-baggers, two RBI, and two runs. Right fielder Jeremy Pickrel also had two RBI, finishing 1-for-5 with a double and a stolen base.

Skyhawks right fielder Jorge Moreno led the way for Sussex offensively, finishing the night 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and four RBI.

The Pride and Skyhawks will play game two of the three series on Wednesday night, at 7:05pm, when German Melendez will makes his first start for Nashua. Right-hander Kyle Ruwe will start for Sussex.
