Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - Sussex starter Kyle Ruwe struck out six and did not walk a batter in eight innings of work to pace the Skyhawks to a 7-3 win over the Nashua Pride Wednesday night at Skylands Park.
Ruwe (5-1) gave up 11 hits and three runs en route to his fifth win of the season. Matt Petrusek came in and pitched the ninth inning in a non-save situation for Sussex. The Skyhawks improved to 12-13, while Nashua fell to 11-13.
Jorge Moreno and Walter Young blasted back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first to jumpstart the Sussex offense and give the Skyhawks an early 2-1 lead; a lead they would never relinquish.
Young finished the night two for three, and first baseman Matt Weston went two for four with two runs scored for the Skyhawks.
Nashua's Brian Duplissie continued his torrid hitting, going three for four with his league-leading 13th double. Vinny Pennell went four for five with a double and a run scored in the losing effort.
Nashua starter German Melendez (1-1), who went five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits, picked up the loss for the Pride.
Nashua and Sussex return to action Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. for the final game of the three-game series.
