College Park Skyhawks News Release
ORLANDO - On Tuesday night, the College Park Skyhawks (10-5) moved on to the Showcase Cup semifinals with a 100-87 win over the Ontario Clippers (9-6). The second round of the Showcase Cup will take place on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., where the Skyhawks will square off with the No. 1 seed Indiana Mad Ants.
Brandon Randolph led the Skyhawks with 23 points off the bench (9-16 FG), as well as grabbing five rebounds, dishing three assists, and swiping four steals. Tyson Etienne scored 15 points (5-10 FG, 4-6 3FG).
The Skyhawks defense held the Clippers to three fastbreak points on the night and College Park outscored Ontario in the paint, 54-36.
The first quarter saw the Skyhawks overcome a 13-3 deficit early to bring the game to a 19-19 tie with 2:50 left in the period before taking their first lead at 22-21 with 1:49 left. Randolph came off the bench and added seven quick points (3-4 FG) to propel the Skyhawks to a 29-24 lead after the first frame.
The Skyhawks held the Clippers to 12 points (5-20 FG, 1-10 3FG) in the second quarter, winning the period 24-12 and tying the team record for fewest points allowed in any quarter in the process. Randolph added another seven points in the quarter, while snagging two steals on the other end of the court. Randolph helped the Skyhawks take a 53-36 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
For the half, the Skyhawks held the Clippers to zero fast break points and 12 points in the paint. Zero points in the paint allowed is a season-best for the Skyhawks in any half, while 12 points in the paint allowed ties a season-best for any half.
The third quarter saw the Clippers put on a run of their own to bring the game to within one point at 65-64 with 1:38 left in the frame. A clutch three by Etienne with 0:25 left in the third helped keep the Clippers at bay, and the Skyhawks entered the fourth with a 72-66 lead.
The Skyhawks won the fourth quarter behind their defensive effort, holding the Clippers to 21 points and scoring 28 of their own to seal the victory.
Jordan Miller led all scorers in the game with 28 points for the Clippers. Xavier Moon added 12 points and four assists.
