Grand Rapids Drive News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Apr. 1 - In a Central Division showdown, the playoff-bound Sioux Falls Skyforce (29-19) defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (22-26) on the road on Wednesday night by a score of 121-101, clinching the Central Division in the process.

The win means the Skyforce got the upper hand in the season series between the two teams, with four wins and two losses. It's their sixth win in a row and 10th out of their last 12 games.

The loss comes after a run of strong play for the Drive, as it drops their record in their last seven games to 4-3. However, they were eliminated from playoff contention after losing to Maine on March 29, and even had they won that game, this loss would have eliminated them.

The Drive got off to a slow start offensively, scoring just two points in the first four and a half minutes. They recovered decently well to get quickly back into the game, but Sioux Falls' remarkably consistent effort allowed them to maintain separation.

Late in the third quarter was when the Skyforce were able to put the Drive away, as they hit their first 15-point lead with three minutes remaining in the third.

All in all, Sioux Falls continued their recent stretch of dominant play, never trailing beyond two minutes into the second quarter.

The Skyforce got another strong performance from Scotty Hopson, who scored 22 points. Six other Sioux Falls players also scored in double digits, led by Larry Drew's near-triple double with 16 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists.

Adonis Thomas and Hasheem Thabeet were the two Drive players most consistently able to crack Sioux Falls' tough defense. Thomas dropped 30 points and Thabeet racked up 24 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Both teams played fairly efficient offensive games, but the Skyforce were a step ahead. They shot 57 percent from the field, consistent with their #1 ranking in field goal percentage on the season, and turned the ball over just seven times.

Sioux Falls heads to Fort Wayne to play the Mad Ants in their last road game of the year on April 3. The same day, the Drive will play their last home game of the year, hosting the Erie BayHawks.
