Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD (January 19, 2006) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that they have acquired Geno Carlisle from the Yakama Sun Kings and Billy Thomas from the Dakota Wizards in two separate trades. The Sioux Falls Skyforce was in need of several players after losing Rodney Buford (overseas), Brandon Hunter (overseas), and Stephen Graham (NBA) over the past week. These two guards both have the ability to score in bunches and are legitimate outside shooting threats.
Carlisle, a 6'4" guard out of the University of California, was acquired from the Yakama Sun Kings in exchange for a third round pick in the 2006 CBA Draft. He is a minor league veteran who has played in the CBA, NBDL, and ABA at some point throughout his career. He had a short stint with the Portland Trail Blazers last season as he averaged 1.3 ppg in six games. So far this season he is averaging 8.7 ppg and 2.6 apg in 19 games (2 starts). He had his best game of the season at the Sioux Falls Arena back in November as he had a season-high 27 points, including 7-for-10 from downtown, in a Sun Kings victory over the âForce.
Thomas, a 6'5" guard out of the University of Kansas, was acquired from the Dakota Wizards in exchange for guards James Wright and Al Neale, along with future considerations. He enjoyed two seasons (2001-03) in the NBDL as he averaged 15.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg in 94 games (91 starts). He was playing extremely well for the Dakota Wizards last season before getting called-up by the New Jersey Nets. He averaged 3.7 ppg and 1.4 rpg in 25 games (no starts) as he finished the season in the NBA. He was named All-League First Team and CBA Newcomer of the Year last season as he averaged 20.8 ppg and 4.5 apg in 24 games (23 starts). So far this season he is averaging 15.6 ppg and 3.4 apg in 21 games (18 starts).
Both players are expected to be in uniform when the âForce takes on the Dakota Wizards on Friday, January 20th, in Bismarck, North Dakota. Tip-off is set for 7:05 pm at the Bismarck Civic Center.
