
SkyChiefs Shut Out Bulls

Durham, NC- Four Syracuse pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Syracuse SkyChiefs shut out the Durham Bulls 4-0 on Saturday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
LHP Tim Young (2-2) recorded the victory with two and 1/3 innings of hitless relief of RHP Corey Thurman, who left after three innings with tightness in his hamstring. RHP Scott Cassidy followed with three scoreless innings and RHP Brian Bowles induced a game-ending double play from the only hitter he faced to pick up his seventh save of the season.
Gary Burnham and Tony Zuniga hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to give Syracuse the early lead. They added two more runs in the eighth inning on RBI singles by Mike Moriarty and Reed Johnson.
Jason Tyner, Jason Smith and Chad Mottola each had singles for the Bulls, who were shut out for the third time this season. RHP Rob Bell (2-4) was the losing pitcher. He lasted seven innings, allowing two runs (earned) and seven hits with one strikeout.
