Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release
The Tucson Sugar Skulls secured a massive road win in dramatic fashion in the final seconds in Vegas by a score of 42-41.
Tucson improves to 5-4 on the season and now moves into sole possession of the third seed out West. It was a pivotal win against a conference opponent that boasted the same record as them entering the contest.
The Sugar Skulls trailed for most of the game from early in the first (7-0) until they took their first lead (42-41) with 27 seconds left. The teams traded punches but it was mostly alternating between a one and two-score game with Vegas leading the majority of the game.
Their comeback started with a clutch interception from defensive back Rashie Hodge and ended with a Mike Jones touchdown and an extra point from Michael Hall to take the one-point lead. A critical rogue also benefited the Skulls, after Hall got an incredible bounce that backed the Knight Hawks up in their own endzone.
After the Skulls took the lead late, Vegas got themselves in decent field position to attempt a game-winning field goal. Kicker Stevie Artigue drilled the first attempt that was waived off due to a Tucson timeout before the snap. On his second attempt, he missed wide left and the Sugar Skulls won.
