Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters lost a 4-2 decision to the Camden Riversharks on Saturday evening in front of 6,635 fans at Constellation Field. The Skeeters offense was held to just four hits and two runs in the setback. The loss drops the Skeeters to 67-71 on the year with the season-finale tomorrow afternoon at 5:05.
Camden jumped out to an early lead on starter, Brett Marshall. Brandon Chaves drew a four-pitch walk to open the game and Paddy Matera singled into center to put a pair aboard. Carlos Guzman singled through the right-side of the infield, scoring Chaves, but Matera was gunned down at third on a strong throw from Kevin Russo in right. Joel Guzman lifted a two-run home run to left to give the Riversharks a 3-0 lead.
Marshall settled in following the top of the first to put up six-straight scoreless innings, scattering one hit and three walks through the seventh. Overall, Marshall went 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts in his second start with the season. He was saddled with the loss, however, as the offense only picked up two hits.
The Skeeters finally came up with a hit with a runner in scoring position to crack the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. Jeff Dominguez worked a leadoff walk, his third of the game, and moved into scoring position by swiping second. Following a strikeout and a groundout that moved him to third, Chris Wallace sprayed a single into right to cut the score to 3-1.
Adrian Martin worked a scoreless eighth before Andrew Johnston entered in the top of the ninth. Johnston gave up a one-out single to Zach MacPhee who advanced to second on a groundout and stole third. Michael Rockett laced a triple down the right-field line to expand the lead to 4-1.
Patrick Palmeiro blasted his second home run in as many days with a solo shot to left off Matt Gorgen, cutting the score to 4-2. The Skeeters were unable to push across the equalizer, stranding the bases-loaded in the 4-2 loss.
