New Britain Bees News Release

(Sugar Land, TX) - The Sugar Land Skeeters (22-17, 57-52) defeated the New Britain Bees (17-21, 52-55) 3-2 at Constellation Field on Wednesday night to earn their second victory in the first six games played of a seven-game series in the Lone Star State.

New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (5-10) was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned runs) on five hits (one home run) across six and two-thirds innings pitched, walking three and striking out two. Sugar Land starting pitcher Carlos Pimentel (5-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits (one home run) in seven innings on the mound, walking two and striking out four. Ricardo Gomez close the ballgame out in the top of the ninth inning for his first save of the season.

Sugar Land took a 1-0 advantage versus Lara in the last of the fourth courtesy of back-to-back two-out hits courtesy of Zach Borenstein and D.J. Peterson as Borenstein picked up a seeing-eye single and Peterson followed with an RBI double off the wall in left centerfield. New Britain answered back in the top of the seventh with a rally of their own against Pimentel, with Bijan Rademacher setting the table with a leadoff walk against the right-hander. Following consecutive outs to Jason Rogers and Mike Carp, 2019 Liberty Division All-Star Jonathan Galvez stepped into the batter's box and proceeded to crack a go-ahead two-run home run just over the wall in left for his team-best 16th roundtripper of the campaign, and with one big swing of the bat the visitors had their first lead of the evening 2-1. The one-run cushion was short lived as Albert Cordero answered the bell following the seventh inning stretch as he blasted a two-out, game-tying solo big fly over the right field bullpen and onto the berm as the Skeeters faithful hustled for the souvenir. Sugar Land was not finished there as Juan Silverio singled, forcing Bees skipper Goose Gozzo to lift Lara for reliever Sammy Gervacio. A Silverio stolen base put the lead run in scoring position for leadoff batter Rico Noel, who hit a pop-up towards the right side of the infield that was dropped by Galvez in fair territory which allowed Silverio to cross the plate with the eventual winning run, giving the ballgame its final score of 3-2. A leadoff walk to Rademacher in the ninth would later see the New Britain outfielder advance to second when Jason Rogers was walked intentionally with first base open, setting the stage for Ozzie Martinez. No comeback was in the cards for the boys from the Hardware City as the Bees infielder grounded out to shortstop Jason Martinson enabling the Skeeters to hang on, snapping their four-game losing streak in the process while denying New Britain a fifth consecutive win in the series. Rademacher, Galvez, Martinez, and Zach Collier each had one hit apiece en route to the loss.

The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Friday, August 23rd when they welcome in the Long Island Ducks for a three-game weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. It will be another Fat Tire Friday in the Hardware City! Close out the week with some great baseball and a cold beer! Fat Tire Belgian Ale Drafts are just FIVE DOLLARS AT ANY CONCESSION STAND ALL NIGHT LONG!
