
Skeeters Relief Struggles And Late Rally Falls Short In Loss To Blue Crabs

SUGAR LAND, TEXAS- The Sugar Land Skeeters' late rally came up short in a 6-5 loss to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Tuesday afternoon. The Skeeters are now 30-28 on the season and 2.5 games back of York for 1st place in the Freedom Division.
Ricky Hague doubled home Josh Prince in the bottom of the 1st to give the Skeeters an early 1-0 lead. Barfield brought home Hague on a sac-fly to center that would make it 2-0. The Blue Crabs quickly responded in the top of the 2nd with Michael Snyder's solo homer that pushed it to 2-1. Travis Scott crushed his 9th homer of the season in the bottom of the 6th to extend the Skeeters lead to 3-1.
The Blue Crabs charged back with a five-run 8th inning starting with an RBI single from D'Arby Myers and a sac-fly RBI from Angel Sanchez that would tie the game 3-3. Zach Wilson put the Blue Crabs ahead 5-3 on a two-run double that brought home Bryant Nelson and D'Arby Myers. Michael Snyder singled home Zach Wilson to extend Southern Maryland's lead to 6-3.
Travis Scott rallied with two outs in the bottom of the 8th with a single to right that would score Ricky Hague to make it 6-4. Kent Matthes followed with a single to left that would score Scott to make it 6-5. The Skeeters would go down in order in the bottom of the 9th allowing Cody Eppley to pick up his 11th save of the season.

*CORRECTION: The Skeeters only have 12 games left in the first-half. After their series with Southern Maryland, the Skeeters will end their home stand with a four-game set against Somerset. The club will then hit the road for a four-game series against Southern Maryland and will wrap up the first half with a three-game set against Long Island. The last game of the first half will be July 3rd against Long Island.
