Barnstormers Beaten By Former Mariner, Cardinal

Lancaster Stormers News Release

One former Seattle pitcher and one former St. Louis outfielder stood out for the Bridgeport Bluefish on Tuesday evening as the host club dropped the Lancaster Barnstormers, 6-1, in the middle game of a three-game series.

The loss dropped Lancaster 3 1/2 games behind the division leading York Revolution in the Freedom Division chase.

Right-hander Blake Beavan (3-1), a former rotation starter for the M's, fired six innings, giving up six hits and one run to pitch the Bluefish to victory. The former first round draft pick did not walk a batter and struck out seven in his stint.

The only support he ultimately needed came from Adron Chambers, a former extra outfielder for the Cards, who homered, tripled and scored a pair of runs.

Chambers' homer to right off Connor Root led off the third to break a scoreless tie. Bridgeport added a second run in the third on Welington Dotel's two-out double down the right field line and a bloop hit to right by Jose Cuevas.

Lancaster produced its only run in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Josh Bell stroked a double inside the bag at first. Sean Halton followed with a triple blasted to left center. K.C. Hobson shot a hopper toward the middle, but the 6'7" Beavan tipped the ball to second baseman Luis Rodriguez, who fired to first ending the inning.

Chambers' triple to right center and a sacrifice fly by Luis Hernandez built the Bridgeport lead to 3-1 in the fifth.

The 'Stormers second opportunity to score came in the sixth. Josh Whitaker and Caleb Gindl knocked singles into right with one out. Bell struck out, but Halton delivered a bouncing single into right field. Dotel came up firing and nailed Whitaker at the plate with a perfect one-hop throw to Rossmel Perez.

While the Barnstormers were limited to just one extra single by the Bridgeport bullpen, the Bluefish tacked on three runs in the eighth, two on an opposite field double by Rodriguez that just eluded Josh Whitaker's grasp on a diving effort in shallow left.

The series concludes on Wednesday night with Mike Lee (2-2) taking the hill for Lancaster against lefty Jimmy Patterson (1-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:55. Following the action Wednesday night, the 'Stormers head home for eight games against New Britain and Bridgeport.

NOTES: Halton's triple was his fifth as a Barnstormer, tying him with Long Island's Anthony Vega for the club lead...Halton also had two for Reynosa (Mexican League) earlier this year...He had not had more than three in a season at any point earlier in his career...Bell's double extends his hitting streak to eight games...Matt Reynolds pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning...He has allowed only one run in his last 15 1/3 innings.
