Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their second-straight game, losing in walk-off fashion to the Somerset Patriots on an error in the bottom of the 12th inning, 3-2. The loss drops Sugar Land to 19-25 in the second half and 55-59 overall.
Sean Gallagher turned in a gem on the mound for the Skeeters. The right-hander went 8.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts, but was saddled with a no-decision despite the strong start.
The Skeeters broke the scoring seal in the top of the sixth against Patriots starter, Matt Zielinski. Jeff Dominguez cut the bags perfectly for a one-out triple. Delwyn Young lifted a deep fly ball to left, allowing Dominguez to come in to stake the Skeeters to a 1-0 lead in the middle innings.
Somerset claimed its first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh after recording its second and third hits of the night. David Vidal reached on a single before Michael Burgess hit a two-run home run to take the lead. The home run was the only blemish on Gallagher's stupendous outing.
Dominguez blasted his second home run of the season in the top of the eighth to tie the game. The outfielder logged his second extra-base hit of the game and finished a single and double shy of the cycle.
Dan Runzler, Andrew Johnston and Robbie Weinhardt combined for three perfect innings out of the bullpen, striking out four and keeping the Patriots off the scoreboard to extend the game. Cory VanAllen entered in the bottom of the 12th and surrendered a leadoff single to Robert Andino. With Aharon Eggleston trying to lay down a sacrifice bunt, VanAllen fired wide of first base, allowing Andino to race around the bags and score the game winning run, 3-2.
